Fashion | Menswear Fall 2014 Trend Report
Fall’s daunting chill is drawing closer and despite not wanting to layer up we’ll soon have to and this season’s trends make it an exciting one to shop for – seriously. From footwear to outerwear, Fall tends to be my favourite season, not only is it the longest but the most versatile. Layering pieces and separates are easily transitioned from day to night looks and double up as staple basics.
Key colours to look for this season are emerald-green and deep reds, such as claret. While claret takes over in colour schemes, patterns like over-sized squares join the mix – and nothing make me happier. Why? Because, I for one cannot wait to see the argyle print done and gone. Hope you read that gentlemen!

One can’t forget about footwear, and my weakness are boots – and there were plenty this season. With Chelsea boots seen throughout a variety of designers, nothing saw more show than the hiking boot. I don’t think anything can make Canadian men happier than knowing that a big statement boot is in fashion because we all know how much snow and sleet we get up here. Keep an eye out for slimmer silhouettes that have a full lace feature for added support AND warmth. Choosing a bright lace colour will make the shoes pop and it’ll add a shot of personality.

Coats and outerwear become a necessity for our below zero temperatures and we can expect parkas and wool-blends out in full force. For the daring fashionisto, capes littered the runways both in tailored formal looks or puffed-styles that are appropriate with a ski-hill or an urban lifestyle.

Now I know capes aren’t for anyone, but you score HIGH on the fashion scale with throwing one of these on. For the more practical man – the baseball jacket serves its purpose not for keeping you cool on the baseball diamond but cool everywhere else. We’ve seen the varsity for a couple of seasons and now the baseball jacket has made an appearance in a variety of fabrications and weights. It’s shorter length and fuller sleeves add dimension to an outfit without being overwhelming and perfect idea for a fall jacket before the temp dips!

Have you seen a trend that I missed? Or COMPLETELY disagree? Comment, bitch and let me know what you think, or have been seeing.
