Look Book | Diesel Hate Couture

S/O to DIESEL for keeping it real with FAGGOT written across a bomber. A harsh word for many of you to read, eh? Try it yelled at you in a school hallway, or better yet; hurled at me by a guy on a bike; a fucking bike, as I waited for the bus at Lansdowne and Davenport this week.

Having extremely high self-esteem & confidence coming out every end; I got into a lot of fights in highschool because I turned around and replied with a “Thanks for pointing that out, genius.” or “Want to label the sky blue too you piece of shit?” I owned that word, I knew at a young age & identified with being gay, out since grade 10. I came to terms with who I was early on, had the self confidence and walked around like any straight guy parading around. I also acknowledge I came from a position of privilege, and that everyone has the ease to be who they are. Even today.

We’ve all fallen pray to negativity and criticism; especially on social media. Lord knows I have, and THRIVE on it. Whatever you do online, there is always somebody ready to criticize, chime in and troll your life. But when these remarks come from unjustified hate, a lot of take a step back and can take it personally. But as I’ve learned in these nine years of blogging, the more you embrace the negativity the more it’ll continue and yeah I stir the pot but giving it power over us feeds it, causing harm.

This is the main reason why DIESEL is launching Haute Couture. A unique collection designed to do just that: disempower hate. Diesel takes some of the haterade it’s received throughout the years like “Diesel is dead” and “Diesel is not cool anymore,” showing them off with pride and turning them into unique items.

Then, because no one gets more hate than the celebrities and names we follow on social media, we are kicking this off with a group of polarizing global personalities including Nicki Minaj, Gucci Mane, Bella Thorne, Bria Vinaite, Tommy Dorfman, Miles Heizer, Yovanna Ventura, Barbie Ferreira, Yoo Ah-In and Jonathan Bellini,to help deliver an important message: “The more hate you wear the less you care.”

Talents chose some of the worst comments they have ever received, and we have designed exclusive Haute Couture items for each of them. Nicki Minaj was dubbed “The Bad Guy.” Gucci Mane was told “Fuck You, Imposter.” Bella Thorne was named a “Slut.” And, Tommy Dorfman was called “Faggot.” All these comments are now limited-edition items in the Haute Couture collection, available from September 19 in selected DIESEL stores and on diesel.com
