To all my Canadian fashion and art lovers: Rejoice. Why? Because, SPRZ NY, a collaboration between MoMA and UNIQLO has finally launched in UNIQLO stores in Canada!
Back in ther summer I finally made the time to visit the New York flagship on 5th Ave because I wanted to get my hands on a couple of these exclusive UNIQLO Ts (UT) and I’m glad to share that the collaboration is now available in UNIQLO stores in Canada!
Here’s a backgrounder for those of you unaware of the history of the collaboration:
At UNIQLO, we seek to enhance lifestyles worldwide with our clothing. We provide quality apparel that is functional, innovative, and affordable. Our casual basics are designed for everyone – including our UT line of T-shirts, featuring graphic designs from the worlds of fine art, music, and culture.
With the world’s finest collection of modern and contemporary art and a dynamic exhibition program, The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) is a place for discovery and engagement that fuels creativity and inspires art enthusiasts of all ages and experiences.
The Museum of Modern Art attracts visitors from around the world. Supplementing its collection and exhibitions, MoMA’s resources include a Library and Archives, conservation labs, study centers, and education programs, which broaden public access to art and research.
In their different fields of expertise, UNIQLO and MoMA share a passion for quality and innovation, and it is a happy coincidence that UNIQLO and the Museum are near one another – UNIQLO at the corner of Fifth Avenue and 53rd Street, and MoMA on 53rd Street. As a neighbor in Midtown Manhattan, UNIQLO shares the Museum’s values and deep respect for art.
In May 2013 UNIQLO became a multi-year corporate sponsor of MoMA, supporting the Museum’s Friday night free admission program—now UNIQLO Free Friday Nights—which provides free access for the public to the Museum and all exhibitions from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. every Friday, throughout the year.
The SPRZ NY (Surprise New York) collection aims to disseminate examples of stunning artistic inspiration around the world. This will be the first UT collection available to Canadians.
In its 10th season, UTs have become central to UNIQLO’s LifeWear approach by emotionally engaging with people. Their internationally beloved content simply and directly conveys the individuality and moods of wearers. NIGO, the UT Creative Director, leverages his passion and expertise to make UT the standard for T-shirts featuring select pop culture icons from around the globe.
The SPRZ NY collection is available at Yorkdale & Eaton Centre UNIQLO stores..
