I’m not one for brands monopolizing on holidays or leveraging the plight of marginalized groups (hi, Pride) for the financial gain of getting their brand out there. But there’s something to be said about a brand celebrating a mutual relationship that transcends time, people & experiences. I’ve long worn New Balance, and as an first generation immigrant to Canada they were one of my first real brand name shoes that I had in elementary school and I remember vividly the feeling when I wore those shoes (because I obviously wasn’t allowed to wear them all the time) that no one could touch me. I felt fancy.
With Canada celebrating a milestone bday this year, New Balance has partnered with Ottawa-based sneaker destination, NRML to create the “Parliamentary Runner.” The design is inspired by Ottawa’s parliament buildings and their muted colour scheme make them optimal for wear outside of our Canada Day long-weekend.
The limited edition style launches July 1st at: NRML in Ottawa, New Balance Toronto, Vancouver and Ottawa, Newbalance.ca, Capsule (Toronto), Livestock (Vancouver) & Off the Hook (Montreal). Price: $279.99
